We’re using the term ‘celebrity’ here, because many times, athletes will achieve that status for a multitude of reasons. Some clamor for and crave the attention, using their status to keep the ego inflated. Others embrace it for the opportunity to pour into an individual or a community a message of self worth and hope. Ronda Rousey is one of those athletes that has attained international celebrity status. She’s become bigger than her sport. We’re not giving our opinion on her shortcomings or propping her up. You can do that. But she’s back in the news. This edition of Today In MMA covers Ronda and a few ‘crazy’ happenings surrounding a few in the sport of MMA. Put on your crazy glasses so you can decide for yourself. Cyborg Holm Fabricio Werdum.

  • Torrie Wilson of WWE fame spoke recently about the possibility of Ronda Rousey joining the WWE. She has a huge fan base and they would love to see her continue in the limelight. This chatter has been going on for quite some time, as Ronda has made appearances at various wrestling events, causing the speculation. But part of that talk was that it would be after her MMA career, which many thought to be a long one, still seeing her in the octagon with the UFC. Watch the video below and tell us what you think. Do you agree with Torrie’s comments?

  • Fabricio Werdum goes crazy in Australia. Who said crazy only belongs to Conor McGregor? Not us, that’s for sure. But it’s reasonable to say this is ridiculous. Fabricio Werdum could not compose himself and went Australian on Colby Covington. This incident apparently started in the hotel lobby with a slap and a leg kick response between Fabricio Werdum and Colby Covington. In the video below, you can clearly see Werdum throw a boomerang at Colby Covington, who is less than 10 feet away.  Reports have surface that Fabricio Werdum has apparently been charged with assault.

  • Werdum is no stranger to these confrontations though. He just recently had a run-in with Tony Ferguson at the UFC 216 media luncheon. Long gone are the days of “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but … “. Celebrity status, fame and notoriety can be too much for some people.

  • UFC 219 is scheduled for December 30, 2017 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and there has been no main event announced. There are currently 10 fights scheduled, but we are just 6 weeks away and if a fight will be added, they are running short on time. This would typically be the card that is stacked and the UFC can hang their hat on. Close out the year with a bang and set up intrigue for the coming year’s events.  Rumors have been tossed around with a possible Conor McGregor fight or Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz meeting in the octagon. But, for right now, it’s a wait-and-see game. We do have this little gem to throw at you. Holm and Cyborg will meet for the 145 lb. strap.Cyborg Holm UFC 219

  • Bellator MMA is returning to a thing of the past.  And in our opinion her at Octagon 24/7 …. we love it. Bellator will finally have a Heavyweight Division champion. It’s going to take a year before we actually see a fighter crowned. But who cares, really, if it takes that long. They’ve done a good thing here and created intrigued with the fighters who have received the invitation. We will have more coverage on this event in the next week, so keep checking in to get the scoop.

  • Bellator’s tournament features 4 true legends of the sport. RIZIN FF has enticed another MMA legend to come out of ‘retirement’ to fight in RIZIN FF 9: World Grand Prix Final Round. Mirko ‘Cro Cop’, 43, will face Tsuyoshi Kosaka on December 31st, 2017.  Cro Cop (35-11-2) won RIZIN FF’s 2016 open weight title and will delay his retirement by a few more fights, which was announced by RIZIN FF President Nobuyuki Sakakibara.
