Mark Cherico UFC Debut!

Local Talent

Mark Cherico UFC Debut: The Pittsburgh MMA scene has known for quite some time that there were some gems in the area. With some of the local talent that was representing Pittsburgh in the region, it was only a matter of time. Then things started happening.

Cody Garbrandt made it to the UFC and is now the champion. Adam Milstead won his UFC debut. Dominic Mazzotta made his debut in Bellator. But one of the names was missing. That missing name was Mark Cherico.

Big News! Mark Cherico UFC!

That all changed on July 20th. It started with a FB post from Cherico that read, “Papers signed big news coming!”. Many people suspected that Cherico was going to be on the recently announced UFC Fight Night card in Pittsburgh, but that wasn’t the case. Just 3 hours later, Cherico was able to announce it officially with another FB post. “Well, it’s official! August 22nd I’ll be fighting for Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in Las Vegas, NV. against Mike Santiago. The fight will air live on UFC Fight Pass. Just want to take a moment to thank my wife Nicole Cherico & my baby girl Aubree Rose for their continued support day in and day out, as well as the rest of my family & friends for their support for the past 10 years. I wanna thank all my coaches & teammates for all the time put in to help get me to this point. And a special thank you to Jason House for making it happen! Now time to get this contract!”

Cherico takes is 11-1 record into the Contender Series and will be battling Mike Santiago on August 22 in Las Vegas. Cherico last fought on December 17th at Pinnacle FC 15 in a grudge match against Antonio Castillo Jr., who suffered a knee injury early in the bout.

The Opponent

Santiago sports a 20-9 record and brings his 10 fight winning streak into the bout. This matchup pits Tapology’s #1 vs. #2 ranked lightweights in the Northeast, however, this fight will be contested at 145lbs.

Contenders on the series are given a single fight contact. With an impressive display during the fight (and marketability sure does help a lot), some fighters are offered multi-fight UFC contracts.

Octagon 24/7 will proudly be providing extensive and exclusive coverage of Cherico’s venture and road to the octagon.
